Participants will divide into two groups for a morning and afternoon session, allowing everyone to experience both topics. Each session will include 4 parts: a fundamentals overview, rigging a quicker lightweight setup, hands-on practice, & building a heavier and more advanced setup. In addition to learning grip essentials, each setup will feature a cinema camera, lighting, talent, and reference monitors to show how the process impacts the final image.
Both Robert Duke and Mike Rodia played major roles on the ‘Nashville’ TV series. For multiple seasons, Robert took on the role of Key Rigging Grip and Mike was the A Dolly Grip. Mike has also gripped on series like “S*x & The City” and “Law & Order”, while Robert has worked on features like “Walk the Line” & “Black Snake Moan.”
This workshop should appeal to more than just grips. It’s designed to show how grips play an essential role in executing a DP and Director’s vision. The demonstrations will impact the camera build, framing, lighting, budget, and scheduling, so Cam Op’s, AC’s, Gaffers, Producers, AD’s, EP’s and more can benefit as well.
